Care for Dogs Adoption Fair III - Payap University Chiang Mai

Care for Dogs jumped at the invitation, to be part of the Payap University Chiang Mai National Science and Technology Exhibition, held within the halls of the Faculty of Science.

Students demonstrated many of the current project activities and companies such as Apple and local computer sales merchandisers were laying out their wears to attract the purses of the students parents.

A highlight of the afternoon, the period I was there, was a stage show performed by some young girls from a visiting school, cajoling elder students to take part in a bottle of liquid recognition quiz. It was all very loud, animated and plenty of fun, the audience enjoyed it immensely.

Sales at the Cfd stand raised money along with donations and many people showed great interest in the work of Care for Dogs.

Karin held adoption interviews with prospective adopters and despite not being quite the same type of venue Cfd had held before at Airport Plaza, there were many adoptions of young puppies, some that had recently been dumped & rescued from a temple in Maejo.

The event also marked the launch of the new Care for Dogs colours and Karin kindly gave all volunteers a free black Polo shirt, with pink stripes & details of Cfd embroidered on the pocket & the back.

The photo quality took a down turn, lighting was not too good for photo's and besides, Amandine has now returned to the USA (miss you so much x) and we were without her photographic skills.

Thank you Chiang Mai Expats Club

Today we were given a tremendous opportunity to present to the Expat community at the Chiang Mai Expats Club meeting at the Chiang Mai Orchid Hotel.

We set up a show / stall outside the meeting room, greeting visitors to the club with a selection of cute puppies and displayed our show stand photo's and wares for sale. The post cards we recently had made with shelter dogs as the stars, were very appealing to people as were the selection of other doggy products available to raise money for Care for Dogs.

The venue was packed out and we were able to demonstrate the work we do, why we do it & provided suggestions about how people could assist to improve the life of dogs giving a PowerPoint presentation and showing a couple of short video's.

After the talk, many folks asked questions and showed interest in helping Care for Dogs both physically & financially. What is more, one of the puppies was promised to be adopted by a family who had just retired to Thailand from the UK.

Thanks again to Alan, Philip, Charles & Jim & the rest of the committee for their support and accepting our request to talk at this forum.

Adoption Fair 2 - Another success

Yesterday, after much confusion about the date, the location within Airport Plaza & the number of pups & kittens to bring along, we finally showed Chiang Mai shoppers the strength of Care for Dogs team commitment, to help homeless dogs & cats find new homes.

Thanks to all the volunteers that were able to help on the day and a warm welcome to newcomers who made the occassion so much more a success. Well done to everyone, the adoption rate equalled the last event at 9 youngsters finding homes. The day also allowed us to communicate with many people, including some who showed interest in volunteering and gave us the opportunity to raise funds through donation & sales and also raise public awareness.

Oh, and I must stress a big thank you to Kh Yu for helping me with the blog.....I think she will get my meaning! ;)

Nimmanhemin Road Arts Fair

1st of December through to 5th, we held a stall to raise funds and awareness. We did it in 2 shifts, many kind people helped us and we were able to raise quite a bit of money through sales of small items and generous folks making donations.

Learned a big lesson. Holidaying foreigners generally do not like to donate and have an opinion 'its not my problem' This was a challenge for us but we kept smiling.

We also met many people with stories to tell about their pest or their own animal welfare activities. In particular there was a couple of Americans who were avid pidgeon rescuers. They explained to me about their activities in Thaepae Gate during their stay in Chiang Mai, with a specially created cotton bag and a small pair of scissors. They said that many pidgeons lose their feet due to a tornequet forming on their legs from rubbish they picked up when they walked, like nylon fishing line etc. They described how they would catch the birds, snip the line and relieve the bird of its shackle. They also told me about the work they do back in the states and I was very impressed. The following day, I put a small pair of scissors in my hand bag, just in case.

Spent most of the next 5 days running to & fro, collecting new stock for the sale or printing up new maps for distribution.

The next sales stand we do, will definately be better than this one. We learned a lot during those 5 days.
